TRIBUTES have been paid to former BBC rugby commentator Bill McLaren, the "voice of rugby", who has died, aged 86.

The much respected Mr McLaren, from Hawick, retired in 2002 and was appointed OBE, CBE and MBE for services to the sport. He died in the community hospital in Hawick yesterday.
