A police statement said yesterday: "Police are appealing for information following the death of an 18-year-old man in Paisley this morning.

"After being refused entry to Fury Murry's nightclub in Shuttle Street around 12.45am, the man became involved in an altercation with security staff and died shortly afterwards.

"A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal."

Police want to know where Mr Smith was prior to turning up at the nightspot.

Detective Inspector Lesley McDowall said: "We know that the young man left his family home around 9pm on Saturday night saying that he was heading out for the night, but so far, we do not know where he was between 9pm and when he got to the club at quarter to one in the morning.

"I am very keen to find out who he was with and what he was doing between those times.

"I would also like to speak to anyone who was in Shuttle Street and who saw the disturbance, or who has any information that will help us with our inquiries."
