Tributes paid to man found dying on road in Kirkcaldy

Police were last night piecing together the final movements of a father-of-two found dying at the side of the road as they continued to hunt his killer.

Darren Adie, 42, was killed in Kirkcaldy on Sunday night. Police confirmed his death was being treated as suspicious and local residents said Mr Adie had been stabbed before collapsing in the Fife town’s Tweed Avenue around 6:45pm.

He was rushed to Victoria Hospital in the town, where he later died.

A full forensic investigation continued yesterday, with scenes of crimes officers dressed in white suits searching under cars and walking in unison along the street in the hunt for clues.

Uniformed officers went door to door as locals were urged to come forward with any information relating to Mr Adie’s final movements.

Mr Adie was described by senior officers as “well known” in the Gallatown area where he was found.

Speaking at the scene of the incident, Detective Chief Inspector Raymond Brown – the senior investigating officer – said the investigation was at an early stage.

He said: “He was moving around the area on foot and has spoken to a number of people throughout the course of the day.

“I’d ask anyone he spoke to come forward and allow us to be the judge of any information that we are passed.

“He was found by a member of the public and conveyed to hospital where he later died. His death is being treated as suspicious.

“Mr Adie was a local man and known in the community.

“He was a friend and associate of many in the area.

“The community has engaged well with the police and we hope they continue to.”

Officers said there would be “high-visibility reassurance patrols” ongoing in the area.

Friends and relatives paid tribute to Mr Adie.

One friend said: “RIP Darren still can’t believe it like.

“I’ve known you all my life and you were always nice to me, gonna be missed by many – thoughts are with your family.”

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “He was well known around here.

“He quite often drank in the Fife Arms pub and you’d often just see him out and about.”
