Tributes paid as golf commentator Hay dies
Born in Edinburgh and educated at Musselburgh Grammar School, he worked as an apprentice clubmaker before embarking on a career as a golf professional and becoming a highly-respected player.
He joined the BBC in 1978 and stayed for 26 years, co-presenting all the major tournaments with fellow commentator Peter Alliss.

PGA chief executive Sandy Jones described Mr Hay as "a great character". He said: "He was passionate about golf and Scotland and loved talking about the early days at Musselburgh.
"He attended our lunch last December and I am so pleased we were able to present him with his Lifetime Achievement Award.
"He often said he was indebted to golf, but I think golf was indebted to Alex Hay."
Mr Hay, who died with his family by his side, leaves a wife Ann, and two sons, Graham and David.
