One message read: "Stevie. Thanks for everything... sleep well. My thoughts are with you and the family. With love from Lynda."

Police said that Mr Curran's family were too upset to release any statement about their loss.

A police spokesman said: "A murder investigation is under way, and police are reiterating their appeal for information."

Police are probing a theory that the landlord was murdered in a revenge attack after ejecting a drinker from his pub.

An injured 23-year-old man picked up by paramedics after being found close to the site of a car crash which police believe is linked to Mr Curran's death is recovering in hospital.
