Trial begins for presenter death

A MAN is to stand trial accused of killing an Asian radio presenter in her own flat.

Khalid Sarwar made his first public appearance in the dock during a preliminary hearing yesterday at the High Court in Glasgow.

The 28-year-old is charged with murdering Awaz FM agony aunt Nasim Jamil at her home in the city's Byres Road last 9 December.

It is alleged Sarwar repeatedly struck Mrs Jamil on the head and body with a hammer.

Sarwar is then said to have hit the 54-year-old mother on the head with a bottle and a piece of glass or similar implements.
