Travel advice for Pope visit

Travellers have been urged to plan their journeys to try to avoid delays caused by the Pope's visit to Scotland.

With Pope Benedict XVI coming to both Edinburgh and Glasgow, traffic management measures are to be put in place across central Scotland to accommodate the tens of thousands who will flock to see him.

Transport Scotland is working with councils, the police and others to minimise disruption to roads and railways ahead of the visit on September 16.

Jim Barton, Transport Scotland's chief roads engineer and director, said: "Delays should be expected, so we urge people to plan their daily journey in advance."
