Year of delays for Forth Bridge drivers

DRIVERS south of the Forth Road Bridge face delays for more than a year, with roadworks starting today on upgrading a motorway junction for the new Forth crossing.

Traffic will be slowed to 40mph, enforced by average speed cameras, over nearly four miles of the M9 and M9 spur between Newbridge (junction one) and the A90 until spring 2013.

The restrictions are being imposed during the upgrade of junction 1a of the M9 at Kirkliston, where the M9 spur branches off towards the Forth Road Bridge.

Transport Scotland said the measures were to protect construction workers and ensure a steady traffic flow.
