‘Wrong-way’ driver admits causing crash

A WOMAN who drove the wrong way down a dual carriageway and crashed into two lorries, causing one of them to overturn, yesterday pled guilty to a charge of dangerous driving.

Shazida Begum, 21, was captured on one lorry driver’s global positioning system driving a Vauxhall Corsa the wrong way down an exit road towards oncoming traffic.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard Begum had assumed a single carriage road was a dual carriageway and she then took a wrong exit, which caused the accident on the A90 Aberdeen-Dundee road.

One lorry driver suffered minor injuries in the collision on 22 March.

The road was closed for six hours after the incident.

Begum’s advocate, Chris Maitland, said she accepted that her driving had been very poor.

Sheriff Gregor Murray deferred sentence until 14 November for reports.
