Woman killed in M74 crash as police seek man

A WOMAN has died in a crash involving a van and a car.

The accident happened on the northbound carriageway of the M74 about one mile north of junction 20 at Eaglesfield in Dumfriesshire at around 5.45am.

Police said the woman died at the scene.

The northbound carriageway has been closed for a full investigation to take place.

Officers are appealing for help to trace a man who was given a lift north from the scene of the crash to motorway services at Johnstonebridge.

He is described as around 30 years old, about 6ft and of Asian appearance with dark hair and long sideburns.

The man was wearing a black quilted Barbour-style jacket over a dark jumper which had the letters FC in white on it, dark trousers and possibly a wedding ring. He may have a head injury.

He was last seen at the service petrol pumps and then the main building between 6am and 6.30am.
