The 49 year-old woman, who has not been named, was hit by the lorry on Thursday on the A90 Aberdeen to Peterhead road.

Police Scotland are investigating the possibility that the accident happened shortly after she had got off a Stagecoach bus in the village.

A force spokesman said: “As a result of the collision the female was conveyed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious head injuries where she remains in a critical condition. The driver of the lorry was uninjured.”

Inspector Ewan Innes, from the Aberdeenshire and Moray Division Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries are progressing into the circumstances of this collision and I would ask that anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch with us.

“There is a possibility that the injured pedestrian was on a Peterhead bound Stagecoach bus and had alighted from this just prior to the collision, so I would be keen to speak to anyone who may have been on this bus and aware of this female getting off in Boddam.”

He continued: “I am also particularly keen to trace the driver of a white Range Rover who may have witnessed the collision.”

The road was closed for almost seven hours while collision investigators carried out an examination of the scene.
