A WOMAN is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a car crash that killed her baby son.

The 16-month-old boy was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following the two-car collision on the A944 Kingswells to Westhill road in Aberdeenshire yesterday afternoon.

A man and woman in the second car were also injured. They are being treated at the same hospital.

The crash happened between Kingswells roundabout and the Four Mile Garage, next to Ardene House veterinary practice.

The A944 was closed in both directions from Westhill roundabout to Kingswells roundabout until 1am today.

Inspector Jim Wood of Grampian Police said: “ Our sympathies and thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the young child who died, and with his mother who remains in a very serious condition.

“An inquiry team has been put in place to investigate the cause of the collision and the A944 was closed until 1am this morning to allow part of those investigations to be carried out.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw this collision to come forward and to make contact with Grampian Police to assist with those inquiries.”
