Western Isles ferries set to resume normal service

Ferry services in the Western Isles should be back to normal after two of its vessels were hit with hitches.

The MV Isle of Lewis, which limped into Ullapool Harbour on Wednesday, was due to resume its service to Stornoway at 7am on Friday.

Repairs were carried out on the starboard engine and sea trials were planned for Thursday evening.

A CalMac spokesman said: “If successful she will depart Ullapool and pick up the 7am Stornoway-Ullapool service.

“In the meantime, traffic is being redirected to Uig/Tarbert, where additional sailings have been put in place. CalMac apologises for any inconvenience caused.”

Meanwhile, the MV Lord of the Isles is due to return to service on Friday, with the 5pm Oban-Colonsay sailing.

Six of the crew were struck down with a virus earlier this week and the ship was being thoroughly cleaned at Oban to prevent it spreading further.

The also ferry sails on the Oban to Castlebay and Lochboisdale service as well as the Coll and Tiree runs.
