Video: motorist drives wrong way up dual carriageway

THE men who filmed a motorist hurtling up the wrong way of a Glasgow dual carriageway said that he “waved” at them while they were filming him.

The driver travelled along the carriageway which goes from East Kilbride to Newton Mearns - before joining the M77.

Toward the end of the clip he can be seen passing a road sign for Newton Mearns and tourist attraction Greenback Garden.

He finally left the A726 at the Mearnskirk cut-off.

The friends were so shocked by his actions they only thought about calling the police after he vanished.

A sister of one of the men revealed: “It looks like he entered the carriageway on the wrong side at a roundabout near Waterfoot.

“My brother and his work mates had just finished a job and were heading home in their van when they spotted him on the other side.

“They couldn’t believe what they were seeing.

“They started filming him on a phone and tried to attract his attention. But the guy simply waved at them and then sped up.

“He wasn’t a old guy. They said he seemed quite young and appeared to know exactly what he was doing.

“He must have had a death wish and they said they still can’t believe he never caused a massive pile-up.

“He simply bowled along the road leaving carnage behind him.

“Unfortunately they couldn’t zoom in to get his number plate before headed off up the slip road.”
