Video: Glasgow Queen Street tunnel works reach halfway point

Engineering works to upgrade the railway in the Glasgow Queen Street tunnel have now reached the halfway point.

Since the 20th March, the upper level station has been closed to facilitate the works - the most significant feat of engineering along the Edinburgh-Glasgow line in 170 years.

Over the last ten weeks, over 2,100 engineers have worked more than 150,000 hours to replace 2000 metres of track through the tunnel as well as track within the station and the lengthening and rebuilding of existing platforms.

The 20-week project remains on track to meet its deadline with the station set to re-open on 8th August.

Transport Minister, Humza Yousaf, visited the site on Friday to view progress on the £60m project.

He said: “Delivering any major infrastructure programme in a live rail environment is a challenging undertaking and the Queen Street tunnel is certainly no exception.
