Two killed in two-vehicle crash in Aberdeenshire

80 year-old Dennis Morrice and 77 year-old Margaret Watson, who were both from the Fraserburgh area, died in the accident on the A952 Mintlaw to Fraserburgh road.

The driver of a Vauxhall Corsa van was rushed by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

The accident happened at 6.20 pm last night on the A92, near the Hythie junction, a mile north of Mintlaw.

The horrific accident closed the road for more than six hours while crash scene investigators examined the scene.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said the accident had involved a red Vauxhall Corsa car and a white Vauxhall Corsa van. The male driver and female passenger in the car had both suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

He added: “The male driver of the other vehicle was conveyed by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he is being treated for serious injuries. There were no further casualties involved.”

Sergeant David Pirie, of the Aberdeenshire Road Policing unit, said: “Obviously our thoughts and condolences go out to the families of those involved at this terrible time, and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed either of the vehicles being driven near the locus about the time to come forward.

“I am keen to establish the full facts and circumstances to identify the cause of this tragedy.”

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said two fire appliances had been sent to the scene and had freed one of the causalities from the wreckage.
