Two injured in Bute light aircraft crash

TWO people have been seriously injured after a light aircraft crashed on an island.

Emergency services were called to the scene between the Kilchattan Bay and Kingarth areas of the Isle of Bute at around 3.45pm today.

Police Scotland said that two people on board have been taken to hospital.

The force said that investigations into the circumstances of the incident are at an early stage.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service said that it had three fire engines at the scene.

The casualty was flown to hospital by a Royal Navy Sea King helicopter from HMS Gannet at Prestwick in Ayrshire.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said it received several calls about the crash.

It sent two fire engines from Rothesay on the island and one from Tighnabruaich on the mainland to the scene.

An SFRS spokesman said: “On their arrival the attending crews encountered a light aircraft that had crashed landed between the Kingarth and Kilchattan Bay areas of the island.

“Fire and rescue service crews, working alongside colleagues from Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service, provided initial treatment to the two occupants prior to their removal to hospital.”
