Two dead and one injured in car crash

Two men have died and a teenage boy has been injured following a car crash involving a van and a lorry.

The Ford Transit van was travelling south on the A77 Kirkoswald Road, Maybole, Ayrshire, when it was in collision with a Mercedes HGV that was travelling in the opposite direction at about 11:35am on Thursday.

The van driver, a 35-year-old man, and one of his passengers, a 21-year-old man, died at the scene. Another passenger in the van, a 15-year-old boy, was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock. Hospital staff described his condition yesterday as stable.

The 55-year-old HGV driver was taken to Ayr Hospital and released after treatment.

Strathclyde Police appealed for information about the crash.
