Two dead after South Lanarkshire car crash

A 21-year-old driver and his 16-year-old passenger died when the car they were in crashed into a wall, police have said.

The red Mitsubishi Lancer was travelling north on the B7078 Carlisle Road in Lesmahagow, South Lanarkshire, at 8.25pm yesterday when it left the carriageway, mounted the pavement and hit a wall at the junction with Craighead Gardens, officers said.

Emergency services were contacted, however the 21-year-old man and his 16-year-old female passenger sadly died at the scene,” a spokesman for the police added.

Their relatives have been informed and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
