Trossachs: ‘Dangerous parking’ prompts closure of Dukes Pass

Police have closed the A821 road near Loch Achray.

The Duke’s Pass around Loch Achray in The Trossachs has been closed by police after concerns over congestion and “dangerous parking”.

Hundreds of visitors have descended on the region this weekend, causing a bottleneck on the narrow road.

Motorists were already told to avoid the popular beauty spot earlier this afternoon, with officials at the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park warning of heavy traffic and cars parked along the narrow roadside.

According to Traffic Scotland, car parks at Rowardennan and Balmaha near Loch Lomond are full to capacity, as is the Ben Venue car park on the Duke’s Pass.

In a statement, Police Scotland said: “We can confirm that the A821 at Duke's Pass due to the volume of traffic in the area.

"A number of vehicles have been parked at the roadside, making it difficult to pass safely. Officers are currently managing traffic in the area and are liaising with the local authority. Drivers are urged to avoid the area at the present time.

"All drivers are urged to parked considerately and safely at all times, ensuring that their vehicle does not cause an obstruction when left unattended.

"We recognise that people have made significant sacrifices recently but we would ask people to use their judgement and avoid places which are busy to prevent beauty spots such as this from becoming over-crowded.”
