Tributes to diver killed in Orkney

TRIBUTES have been paid to a diver who died while exploring a scuttled German wreck.

Stuart MacCormac, 53, was pulled from Scapa Flow, Orkney, by police who had received reports about an unresponsive diver on Sunday.

Mr MacCormac, from Cardiff, was taken to Balfour Hospital, in Kirkwall, where he was pronounced dead.

His employer, Atkins Global Engineering, described management consultant Mr MacCormac as a “truly lovely guy” – with friends also describing him as a true gentlemen.

A keen sportsman, Mr MacCormac was one of the founding members of Cardiff Triathletes club in the 1980s.

Friend Chris Goulden said on the club’s website: “He was a real doer, an action man in the fullest possible way.

“He leaves behind the most beautiful of families and I’m sure your thoughts, like mine, go out to his wife Denise, mum, dad, brother and children.”
