Travel latest: ScotRail testing network in bid to get trains moving

ScotRail have posted a video online showing one of their trains testing the line between Port Glasgow and Gourock.

The transport firm had confirmed that no services will be running through the amber alert area until such tests were carried out on the tracks, while Virgin Trains has said its west coast route to Scotland could be closed while is eastern line will be limited.

Responding to the Tweet one user wrote: “I can only assume no other European country has ever gotten snow on their train tracks ever and Scotland is the first to engage in such a brave and dangerous task of clearing away snow.”

To which ScotRail’s official account responded: “No, we’re not the first, and we’ll not be the last. ^CT.”

A yellow ‘be aware’ warning remains in force for most of Scotland, with a focus on eastern areas, and Traffic Scotland has warned that “significant disruption to transport should be expected” while services are restored.
