Teenager dies from injuries sustained in Beach Esplanade car crash

The accident happened on Beach Esplanade, which runs by the North Sea in Aberdeen, at 7.45am today.

Grampian Police said the teenager, who was driving a red car, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he later died as a result of his injuries.

A 30-year-old man driving a red van sustained minor injuries, the force said.

The road has now reopened after it was closed for four hours to allow an investigation to be carried out.

Sergeant Rob Warnock said: “Our inquiries are at an early stage and we are keeping an open mind. I appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward irrespective of how insignificant they may think their information is.”

Meanwhile, police are appealing for witnesses after another crash left a woman, a teenage boy and two girls, aged five and three, in hospital.

They were passengers in a car that collided with a stationary light goods vehicle in Lochend Street in Campbeltown, Argyll and Bute, last night.

It happened shortly before 8pm, Strathclyde police said.

The 38-year-old male driver sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The 45-year-old woman and the 14-year-old boy were taken to the Southern General Hospital by air ambulance for treatment to their injuries, and both young girls were taken to Yorkhill Hospital for treatment by air ambulance.

Their conditions are described as stable.

A police spokesman described the crash as “serious”.
