Teen charged over deadly East Lothian road crash

Jenna Barbour, 18, Josh James-Stewart, 16, and 15-year-old David Armstrong were killed when the car they were travelling in hit a wall in Tyninghame, East Lothian, on November 25.

The sole survivor of the collision, 16-year-old Robbie Gemmell, was charged with road traffic offences when he appeared in private at Haddington Sheriff Court today.

Gemmell, of Dunbar, was charged under sections 3ZB and 2B of the Road Traffic Act, the Crown Office confirmed. He was also charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Section 3ZB relates to causing death by driving while unlicensed, disqualified or uninsured, while section 2B relates to causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

The teenager made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further examination.

He was released on bail and the date of his next court appearance has not yet been confirmed.

Ms Barbour had just left Dunbar Grammar School after completing sixth year.

The three others were all 5th year pupils at the school when the collision happened.
