Swimmers saved after River Don rescue drama
Coastguards received a 999 call alerting them to a group of 18 to 20-year-olds caught in a rip tide at the mouth of the River Don in Aberdeen at about 6.30pm.
The Aberdeen coastguard rescue team and lifeboat launched a search with two rescue helicopters and two fast rescue craft from vessels in the area.

Hide Ad“They got caught in a rip tide and the surf that is out there at the moment,” a coastguard spokesman said.
“They were all confirmed as being out of the water at 8.15pm.”
The group, a mixture of men and women, managed to get themselves to shore where they were met by the coastguard team and ambulance crews.
One woman was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary suffering from hypothermia, police said.
