'Serious' crash closes M80 to southbound traffic near junction 8

A collision has resulted in the closure of a stretch of the M80.

The accident has taken place near Bonnybridge.

Emergency services are in attendance and traffic build-up is understood to be heavy.

Traffic Scotland alerted motorists through Twitter just before 2pm, confirming there was now no access to the M80 (S) from the M9 at junction 9.

The M876 (S) is also closed at junction 1.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services are in attendance following a serious road crash on the M80 southbound at junction 8 near Bonnybridge. The M80 southbound is closed at junction 8 and the M876 is closed between the M80 and junction 1.”

Traffic Scotland tweeted at 2.45pm, urging motorists who must travel in the area to allow for extra time.

A further message was posted at 3.50pm, advising of a diversion route via Larbert Road/A803 to rejoin M80 (S) at junction 7.
