The Greek airline said services would end on 4 August, just five months after they were launched.

The blow comes two years after Varsity Express started flights using an 18-seat aircraft on the route but went out of business after flying for only one week.

Minoan Air, which started flights in Greece last year, operates 50-seat Fokker 50 turboprop aircraft and also runs charter flights across Europe. It also operates between Oxford and Dublin.

In a statement on its website, it said: “Minoan regrets to announce the termination of its schedule services from Oxford to Edinburgh and Dublin, due to our disagreement with Oxford Airport management on specific terms of cooperation deemed imperative for the viability of our flights.

“Following the fall out of our discussions, the airport had been given advance notice of our intentions thus allowing adequate time to explore all avenues to replace the carrier with another operator.”.
