DISRUPTION which was expected to last up to six hours was caused to one of the busiest stretches of the Scottish rail network after a man was struck by a ScotRail train near Partick station in Glasgow.

The man survived the incident involving a Garscadden to Edinburgh train, which happened just north of the station at about 5:40am.

ScotRail said delays and cancellations were likely until 11:30am. The collision had far-reaching effects because it happened on a section of track through which a wide variety of suburban and pan-Central Belt trains are funnelled before spreading out across a range of routes.

It is understood the man’s injuries are non-life threatening and the incident is being treated as “non-suspicious”.

ScotRail said services began returning to normal at 05:50am but some may still be revised at short notice and last until 11:30am.

National Rail Enquiries said: “The line is now open and trains can begin to run as normal, though some services may still be cancelled or delayed by up to 20 minutes.”
