Ryanair began operating from Glasgow Airport about six weeks ago, offering seven new routes for winter.

The 100,000th passenger was Harry Campbell, a business traveller from Paisley, Renfrewshire, who was told the news as he was about to board the Ryanair morning service to London Stansted.

He was rewarded with a return flight to London Stansted and an overnight stay in the Radisson Blu Stansted hotel.

The airline is also celebrating the milestone by releasing 100,000 seats for sale across its European network at prices from £14.99 for travel in December and January.

Ryanair spokeswoman Maria Macken said: “Ryanair is delighted to celebrate its 100,000 customer at its new Glasgow Airport base which launched at the end of October.

“Ryanair has seen huge demand for its seven new winter routes at Glasgow Airport as customers in Scotland snap up Ryanair’s lowest fares to top destinations including London Stansted, Dublin and Derry.”

The airline will also deliver nine new routes for summer 2015 and expects to handle more than 850,000 passengers a year from Glasgow.

Francois Bourienne, Glasgow Airport’s commercial director, said: “Ryanair has been a fantastic new addition to Glasgow Airport and we are extremely pleased to have the airline on board.

“The fact that we are seeing Ryanair carry its 100,000th passenger today is testament to the popularity of its seven routes this winter amongst our customers.
