Queensferry Crossing: Snow and ice cause disruption on Scottish trunk roads

Drivers have been told not to get caught out this morning as Scotland wakes up to another day of heavy snowfall.

Traffic Scotland has warned drivers of “wintry conditions across the board this morning”, adding that driving conditions are “VERY difficult”.

The warning comes as several of Scotland’s trunk roads, including the Queensferry Crossing have been closed to traffic due to the weather.

The M90 Queensferry Crossing is closed in both directions due to adverse weather conditions.

All traffic is being diverted via the A985 Kincardine Bridge.Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “The safety of bridge users comes first and therefore we’ve made the decision to temporarily close the Queensferry Crossing due to ongoing adverse weather conditions.

“We are constantly monitoring the structure in real time using a bespoke system of weather sensors on the towers and deck of the Queensferry Crossing.“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to road users by this closure and will reopen the bridge when safe to do so.”

The westbound A720 at Lasswade is currently restricted due to an on-going road traffic incident, according to Traffic Scotland.

The A68 near Camptown is closed in both directions due to a fallen tree blocking the road. Officials have advised motorists to use alternative routes.

Traffic Scotland also said the A74 southbound after Junction 14 - Elvanfoot - is closed due to adverse weather conditions.

The Met Office has issued several yellow weather warnings across Scotland and the rest of the UK for snow, rain, and ice in coming days.
