£1m for Rest and Be Thankful work

Transport minister Keith Brown has visited a notorious landslip site to see how extra funding will help deal with any future incidents on the road.

The A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful has been closed a number of times because of landslips.

Last week Mr Brown announced a further £1 million would be spent on mitigation work for future incidents, as well as additional contingencies at the site. Mr Brown found out more about some of the difficulties severe weather can cause during his visit, as well as the work being planned.

Last week he said: “The Scottish Government is determined to address the impact severe weather has had in recent months on the A83 at the Rest and be Thankful – a lifeline route which serves communities throughout Argyll. That is why we are allocating a significant portion of funding – £1 million – to address the problems created by landslips.”
