Plane forced to return to Glasgow due to engine problem after take-off

A Loganair flight was forced to return to Glasgow Airport with one of its two engines working after an emergency was declared after take-off.

The Saab 340 aircraft, with four passengers on board, had left Glasgow for Islay on Wednesday evening before the issue which led to a precautionary shutdown of the affected engine.

The plane landed safely in Glasgow at about 6:20pm.

Loganair chief operations officer Maurice Boyle said: "Our flight LM427 was en route from Glasgow to Islay early yesterday evening with four passengers on board when a warning light indicated an issue with one engine.

The Loganair plane returned to Glasgow due to a problem with one engine.

"The crew of the Saab 340 aircraft followed published procedures and performed a precautionary shutdown of the affected engine and returned to Glasgow on one engine, landing safely without incident at 6.20pm.

"The aircraft is now being fully examined before it returns to service."
