Perth cyclist dies after colliding with parked van

A CYCLIST has died after colliding with a parked van in Perth.

The 52 year-old cyclist, who has still to be named, was critically injured in the accident on Tuesday afternoon and rushed by air ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where he died from his injuries this morning.

The accident happened in West Mains Avenue, Perth, near the junction with Errochty Grove about 2.45pm on Tuesday.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The collision involved a pedal cyclist on a grey coloured mountain bike who collided with a stationary white panel van which was parked in West Mains Avenue.”

He added: “Officers from Tayside Division are enquiring into the circumstances leading up to the collision and are particularly keen to trace any witnesses who may have seen the cyclist or the white van in West Main Avenue on Tuesday. They would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them on telephone 101.”
