Pensioner killed in Cullen crash named

THE pensioner who was killed on Monday in a two car crash on the A98 Banff to Elgin road near Cullen has been named as Sandy Reid, 66, a retired council worker from Banff.

Mr Reid was pronounced dead at the scene following the head on collision between his blue Nissan Almera car and red Nissan Almera which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The 59 year-old male driver of the red Nissan Almera was airlifted by air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he remains in a “serious but stable” condition. His 56 year-old female passenger was taken by ambulance to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin and later released.

Sergeant David Pirie, of the local Divisional Road Policing Unit of Police Scotland, said: “We are currently making enquiries into the circumstances of this collision and I would appeal for witnesses who saw either of these vehicles travelling on the road and who we have not spoken to already to contact Police Scotland on the non-emergency 101 line.”
