Passengers facing train booze ban

TRAIN passengers are to face a booze ban on some services in a new clampdown on drunken behaviour.

ScotRail has banned the carrying and consumption of alcohol between 9pm and 10am after concerns about antisocial behaviour.

Passengers judged to be under the influence of alcohol could also be refused travel when the new measures come into force on July 20.

The move has been welcomed by Transport Minister Keith Brown and Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill, while a recent survey found 84 per cent of ScotRail passengers in favour of drinking restrictions.

Steve Montgomery, ScotRail managing director, said: “Antisocial behaviour fuelled by alcohol has no place on our trains or at stations. Customers should be able to travel in a safe and friendly environment.”
