Paramedic dies after ambulance station collision

A PARAMEDIC has died after she was knocked down in an ambulance station car park in Kilmarnock.

Alison Smith, 51, from Irvine, was hit by a vehicle at the Scottish Ambulance Service station on Western Road around 7.00am on Tuesday morning.

She was taken to Crosshouse Hospital but later died.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service described her as a ‘dedicated professional’, adding: “Everyone in the service is devastated by the loss of Alison Smith.

“She had 23 years of service and was a very popular team member.

“She will be sadly missed by all and our heartfelt sympathies go out to her family, friends and colleagues.”

The spokesman added that the service’s welfare team was providing support to her family and staff members affected by Alison’s death.
