Over limit school bus driver reported missing

TAYSIDE Police have launched a search for a coach company director who has disappeared from his home in Highland Perthshire, days after admitting driving pupils on a school bus run while three times the drink drive limit.

Kenneth Carey, 56, has been missing from his home in Grandtully, Aberfeldy, since Thursday, 24 January.

Carey, a company director of Caber Coaches, appeared at Perth Sheriff Court earlier this month and admitted that on 21 June last year he had driven a school bus with excess alcohol of 105 mics - three times the legal limit of 35mics.

He had driven more than 20 miles from Killin to Aberfeldy, picking up children along the way, before he was pulled over by police officers in the grounds of the Breadalbane Community Campus.

A spokeswoman for Perthshire Council said after Carey’s court appearance: “Following this incident the council immediately banned the driver from council contracts and made alternative arrangements for the route concerned.

“The company continues to operate other transport routes, including three school buses, in Perth and Kinross staffed by other drivers.”

A spokesman for Tayside Police said: “Tayside Police is appealing for information that could help to trace the whereabouts of 56 year-old Kenneth Carey, who has been missing from his home address in Grandtully, Aberfeldy since Thursday, 24 January.”

He added: “Kenneth is 5ft 6ins tall, of stocky build, with short fair hair and blue eyes. It is believed he is wearing a green or beige-coloured hooded top, jeans and boots. He is known to use public transport. Anyone who has seen Kenneth or who has information that could confirm that he is safe and well should call 0300 111 2222, or speak to any officer.”
