One dead, one injured after Aberdeenshire crash

A 23 YEAR-old man has been killed and another driver injured in a two car crash in Aberdeenshire.

The male driver, who has still to be named, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on Monday night on the A980 Alford to Lumphanan road near Muir of Fowlis.

The driver of the other car, believed to be in his 70s, had to be cut free from the wreckage and was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The fatal collision involved a blue Peugeot 407 and a silver Honda Jazz.

A spokesman for the Aberdeenshire Division of Police Scotland said police officers had attended the crash together with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service.

He said: “Sadly, one of the male drivers suffered fatal injuries. The other male driver had to be cut free from the wreckage and was conveyed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by ambulance.

“Police Scotland have closed the A980 between Muir of Fowlis and it’s junction with the B9119 Aberdeen - Tarland Road to enable Collision Investigation into the crash. The road remains closed meantime.”

The spokesman added: “Enquiries into the collision continue. Further details will be released when available.”
