One dead, four in hospital after Dunbar A1 crash

ONE person has died and four others have been taken to hospital after a car crash.

The accident happened on the A1 near Torness power station in Dunbar, East Lothian, at around 7.45pm yesterday.

Police said a 21-year-old female, who was driving a Ford Ka, died at the scene.

Firefighters were called to the scene and had to use hydraulic cutting gear to free four people from the vehicles, two from each car.

A police spokesperson said: “A 21-year-old female passenger, who was travelling within the Ka, sustained serious injuries and passed away at the scene.

“The 21-year-old female driver of the Ka and another female passenger, aged 20, were also taken to hospital along with the 23-year-old male driver and 20-year-old female passenger from the Focus after all occupants suffered various injuries.”

Three of those involved were airlifted to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by a search and rescue helicopter from RAF Boulmer, near Alnwick in Northumberland.

The other casualty was taken by ambulance to the same hospital.

The road was closed for several hours while the crash was dealt with.
