No prosecutions over death of girl who was hit by at least five vehicles on A9

NO motorists are to be prosecuted in connection with the tragic death of a schoolgirl who was killed after being struck by at least five vehicles at night on a busy dual carriageway.

Elli Williams, 16, from Auchterarder, Perthshire, died on 4 January 2011 on the southbound carriageway of the A9 near her home.

She is believed to have been struck by one car and that at least another four vehicles then hit her as she lay in the road.

Elli, a pupil at Morrison’s Academy in Crieff, died shortly after 10pm after she had become separated from her friends following a night out.

A spokesman for the Crown Office has confirmed that there are to be no prosecutions following a detailed investigation by officers from Tayside Police.

He said: “The Procurator Fiscal at Perth received a report concerning the death of a 16 year-old girl on the A9 on 4 January, 2011. After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the death, the Procurator Fiscal has concluded the investigations and decided that no further action is required.”

Elli, the eldest of the four children, was a former pupil at the Community School in Auchterarder and had started attending Morrison’s Academy in Crieff in October last year.

In a statement, released following her daughter’s tragic death, Elli’s mother Cara-Lee, a teacher at Perth High School, said: “The whole family is absolutely distraught and devastated. We are trying to come to terms with the loss of such a wonderful daughter and sister.

“She will be a huge void in not only my life, but that of her dad Paul, her brother, Joss, and her sisters, Ines and Eva.”
