New Oslo airline routes to Aberdeen and Edinburgh

Scandinavian airline SAS today announced direct flights to both Oslo and Stavanger in Norway from Edinburgh, bringing to four the number of new routes for Scotland’s busiest airport in as many days.

The services will operate twice a week between next April and October, with SAS competing with Norwegian and Ryanair on the Oslo route.

SAS will also fly between Aberdeen and Oslo from next March - competing with BMI.

Edinburgh Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar said: “Norway is an important trade and business link for Scotland and we’re delighted to be working with SAS in developing this further.

“Expanding our route network is one of our top priorities and we’re pleased to be introducing these new flights to allow Scots the opportunity to visit this beautiful country.

“Next year will be hugely exciting for Scotland. We’re looking forward to welcoming our Norwegian passengers and giving them a taste of all that Scotland has to offer in 2014.”

The news comes a day after Edinburgh secured its long-sought route to a Middle Eastern hub, with Qatar Airways flights to Doha from May providing passengers with a one-stop link to Asia and Australia.

The airport also announced flights next summer to Philadelphia with US Airways
