Mum, 50, named as victim of Aberdeenshire car crash

THE family of a woman killed in a car crash in Aberdeenshire have paid tribute to their '˜much-loved' mum, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

Police named the victim of a crash near Inverurie as 50-year-old Helen Thornly, from the Oldmeldrum area.

She died after two cars, a silver Volkswagen Jetta and a blue Ford Fiesta, collided on the B9170 Inverurie to Oldmeldrum road just before noon on Sunday.

The family, in a statement be issued through police, said: “We are absolutely devastated at the loss of our mum who was a much loved daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

“We will support each other as a family and ask that we are left alone to grieve.”

Police are urging anyone who saw either of the two vehicles prior to the collision, or anyone who stopped to offer help, to contact them on 101.
