MSP’s crackdown on disabled parking badge abuses

AN MSP has launched a bill to crackdown on abuses of the blue badge scheme for parking spaces for disabled motorists.

• MSP wants blue badges seized from ineligible motorists

• SNP MSP Dennis Robertson also wants fines of up to £1,000 introduced

Parking wardens would be handed the power to seize blue badges from motorists who are suspected of not being eligible to be part of the scheme, under the change in the law proposed by SNP MSP Dennis Robertson.

Under the existing law only police officers have the power the confiscate the badges.

Mr Robertson’s bill would also see those abusing the blue badge system facing fines of up to £1,000.
