Motorcyclist dies in Royal Deeside road accident

ONE of two motorcyclists, seriously injured in a crash on Royal Deeside on Sunday, 2 June, has died in hospital.

• Another motorcylist, 48, sustained serious injuries but has been released from hospital

Mark McConnachie, 44, from the Broughty Ferry area of Dundee, was rushed by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following the accident on the A93 near Coilacriech, Ballater, in which another motorcyclist was also injured.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Mr McConnachie subsequently died at ARI this morning.” He added: “The 48 year-old rider of the second motorcycle sustained serious injuries but has since been released from hospital.“

Sergeant David Pirie from the Aberdeenshire and Moray Division Roads Policing Unit also renewed an appeal for witnesses to the collision to come forward. He said: “This was a serious collision and sadly a man has now died as a result of the incident. Our thoughts are with Mr McConnachie’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

“We know that Mr McConnachie was travelling east on the A93 along with a group of several other motorcyclists when the incident occurred. Mr McConnachie was riding a red and silver Yamaha R1 motorcycle and the injured man, who was also part of the group, was riding a silver, black and orange Aprilia motorcycle. We are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have seen the group of motorcyclists.”
