He was later pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

It’s believed passengers on the bus may have witnessed the incident on a 50mph stretch of the motorway close to Glasgow’s Royal Infirmary.

The section of the motorway on the westbound carriageway near junction 15 was closed while emergency services dealt with the situation.

Inspector Janet Dickie of Police Scotland said: “There would have been other cars driving on the motorway around the time of this incident and it is important we speak to anyone who witnessed what happened.

“In particular we would like to speak to any passengers on the bus involved who may have information to assist with our enquiries.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at the Road Policing Unit based at Helen Street through 101.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland there were no injuries to the bus driver or any passengers.

She added: “We would like to speak to each of the passengers on the bus to find out exactly what they saw.”
