Man who died in Fraserburgh harbour van incident named

THE man who died when a van plunged into an Aberdeenshire harbour last night has been named by Police Scotland as Greig Wood, 48, from the Fraserburgh area.

Mr Wood’s body was recovered from the waters of Fraserburgh harbour in the early hours of this morning after specialist police divers were brought in to to help in the recovery operation at the busy Buchan fishing port.

Emergency services, including the local Fraserburgh lifeboat, were first alerted shortly before 9pm last night after horrified members of the public witnessed the vehicle entering Fraserburgh harbour from its north breakwater.

The van, with Mr Wood’s body trapped inside, was recovered in the early hours of this morning.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”

He added: “The family ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”
