Man held over Maryhill hit-and-run

A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged hit-and-run in 11-year-old Sophie Brannan died.

The youngster died after she and two others were hit by a black Vauxhall Astra which mounted the pavement in the Maryhill area of Glasgow on Friday.

Her 10-year-old friend Chelsea Sommerville suffered a fractured leg while Chelsea’s uncle Joseph Lloyd, 36, is being treated for a fractured shoulder, Police Scotland said.

The car was later found abandoned in a nearby street and officers appealed for information.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested and detained in police custody in connection with the incident.

A report is to be sent to the procurator fiscal and the man is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court tomorrow.
