Man in court over fatal Aberdeenshire crash

A 50 year old man is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court later today in connection with a fatal collision on a rural road in Aberdeenshire in which a female pensioner was killed.

The unnamed woman, who was in her 70s, was killed shortly after she got out of a parked gold coloured Vauxhall Meriva which was struck by a black Ford Focus on the B977 Dyce to Hatton of Fintray road yesterday afternoon.

A 78 year-old man and a 92 year-old woman, who were passengers in the Meriva, were also rushed by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment following the collision.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The collision, which occurred about 1.30pm, involved a westbound black Ford Focus and a parked gold coloured Vauxhall Meriva and as a result the driver of the Meriva, a female in her 70s, who had alighted from the vehicle shortly before, was struck and killed.

“Two passengers in the Vauxhall Meriva, a male in his 70’ and a female in her 90s, were conveyed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment. The male driver of the Ford Focus did not require hospital treatment.”

Inspector Ian Kirkwood of the force’s Road Policing Unit said: “As a result of our enquiries a 50 year old man has been arrested and is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Tuesday.”

He added: “Our enquiries into this collision continue and I would appeal to anyone who saw a black Ford Focus being driven from the Dyce area on the B977 towards the collision scene or indeed the collision itself to give us a call. They may feel that any information they have is insignificant however this may allow us to build on the information we already have.”

The B977 was closed for five hours while investigations into the collision continued.
