M8 J7a crash: motorway remains closed following serious collision last night

Part of Scotland’s busiest motorway in Lanarkshire has remained closed following a serious crash last night.

The collision happened at J7a on the M8 westbound on Thursday evening at about 9pm.

Diversions have been put in place to assist traffic flow and motorists using the motorway are being urged to avoid the area.

Emergency services are at the scene and Traffic Scotland has confirmed the road is expected to be closed for “some time” following reports of “a serious crash.”

The traffic watchdog alerted motorists in the area to the collision on Twitter saying: “”M8 is CLOSED W/B at J7a due to a serious RTC

“The road is likely to remain closed for some time

“Emergency services are on scene.”

A police spokeswoman last night said: "Please avoid the area and follow any diversions in place.

“Traffic is being diverted onto the A725.”

Police Scotland has been contacted on Friday morning for an update.
