Lorry fire closes A9 in early hours of morning

THE A9 Perth to Inverness road was completely closed for almost two hours in the early hours of the morning after a lorry carrying cardboard caught fire near Inveralmond in Perthshire.

The Scania truck was travelling southbound on the busy route when it caught fire, causing the closure of both carriageways.

Traffic was diverted via Luncarty while fire-fighters from four units of Tayside Fire and Rescue Service fought to control the blaze.

The northbound carriageway was reopened shortly after 6am and while one lane remained close southbound.
